Cultivated Sound Compilation, CSC001
"Special Interest Group"

Special Interest Group is the first compilation to be released on Cultivated Sound, featuring tracks from both experimental artists, ambient, and dance music artists locally in New York and internationally.

This compilation expands the dynamic range of electronic music by incorporating a variety of sounds from ambient, electronic to electro-acoustics to noise to house and techno.

“Special Interest Group” represents a post-utopian vision on forming a community of artists that narrates the experience of traveling to an imaginary reality, sharing a collective interest in expanding the listener's perception of sound by experimenting and advancing sound from machines and acoustic instruments, inputting information, creating an environment to learn, collaborate, reflect, and address ideas to each other. This compilation showcases Cultivated Sound’s aesthetic and pursue in sound, also is a tribute to the place that can be inhabited but is nevertheless a mirage.

A limited version of 100 copies will be released as a special art edition in collaboration with PASP, releasing both physically and digitally on October 26th.

The three tape album is mastered by Ryan Wurst, featuring artwork and photography by Tayla Roberge

CSS065: FALSE WITNESS DJ SET
Arising from Brooklyn’s underground, Marco Gomez aka False Witness has been brewing a globally minded, aggressive approach to Techno. Marco first made contact through the art scene: they are a founding member of the KUNQ collective and have made contributions to DIS Magazine, the 2013 Venice Biennale and Nick Mauss' Frieze Project in London in 2014. Sincethen, they’ve shared the stage with acts like SHYBOI, Hector Oaks, SPFDJ, MCMLXXXV, Cem, Tzusing, Remco Beekwilder & Juliana Huxtable. In addition to their solo production work, they are also one half of FALSEBOI, alongside SHYBOI.

Before they left NYC in 2019 for a brief stint to study in Los Angeles, Marco helmed their own event “In The Dark” at underground destinations like Bossa Nova Civic Club and Mood Ring. There, they focused on bringing artists from across disciplines and mediums to the DJ booth. These parties brought people from all walks of life, and quickly became a monthly favorite amongst dedicated club goers and queer artists.

False Witness has made notable contributions to the musical landscape with EPs for labels like E-Missions, GHE20G0TH1K, and singles for compilations like Discwoman & Allergy Season’s Physically Sick 2 and Gays Hate Techno Vol. 2. Over the years, they have toured all over North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia with major headlining slots: Herrensauna at Tresor Berlin, Hyperreality Festival in Vienna, SXSW in Austin, Texas and Warm Up at MoMA PS1 in New York City.

They hold a MFA from the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College. They are currently based in Berlin.

OCTONOMY LIVE SET
It was great to have Octonomy in the studio with us. She performed a live-set with few of her new tracks from her recent album Warhorse. Octonomy spans multiple genres; harsh noise to darkwave to industrial and techno. She uses found sounds, field recordings, voice, power tools, samples, noise, reverb and distortion sequenced through hardware synthesizers to create pulsing, rhythmic soundscapes.

In addition to her sound design, songwriting and DJ work as Octonomy, she has done a number of commissioned sound pieces and longform ambient compositions for experiential spaces, performances and immersive installations, and has incorporated her soundscapes by way of utilizing various different responsive software and hardware-based technologies.
