NEW
RELEASE ‘GOD DAMN YOU’ CULTIVATED SOUND
MARCH 2024
Brooklyn-based experimental artist Maŕa teases her next LP with captivating and haunting new single ‘God Damn You’. A figurehead in New York, establishing herself as a producer, DJ, vocalist and live performer, Maŕa goes in for ambient, experimental, IDM and techno. She’s been proceeded via her own label Cultivated Sound, a collective she nurtures with trailblazing artists like Ariel Zetina, Anna Wall, Maria Chávez, Hiroko Yamamura, Phon.o and Rosa Anschutz - all of whom featured on the label’s first VA Special Interest Group. She also delivered music through New York outpost Air Texture, landing on its compilation series, alongside Silent Servant, Rrose, Octa Octa, Laurel Halo and Luke Slater.
‘God Damn You’ unveils Maŕa’s exploration of falling in love, hard. She probes the insidious nature of all-consuming infatuation, and the emotionally-exhaustive spirals that often follow a period of heightened excitement. “I’d love for the listener to create their own story,” she explains. “The source of your fascination could be a person, a creature or a God. Whichever the being or entity is, it's revealed its dreams to you and there's darkness there with the inability to resist it. There’s this sense of drowning within the madness, finding yourself uprooted or lost and being under its control. You’re powerless to its magnetism and part of you relishes it.”
Fans of Maŕa’s productions, mixes and performances have come to expect heavy duty, ultra-rhythmic and evocative sounds. She is a regular at NYC radio station The Lot Radio and XPIZZA. The listening community in New York is awaiting her return in the realm of experimental music.
Maŕa is also immersed in New York’s fashion scene, often found dramatically bringing both worlds together with her own jewellery collections from Maŕa Peralta Studio. Eartheater, Julia Fox and TYGAPAW are some of the faces to be seen in her steel futuristic jewellery pieces. Last autumn, Maŕa debuted her first collaboration with guitarist Wilson Flores at New York Fashion Week, performing at House of Yes with the KRATER collective to showcase her jewellery with an experimental set that was a fusion of fashion, design, sculpture, expression, movement, art and techno.
