Our mission is constantly evolving as we strive to integrate programs with collaborators and residents. To cultivate music as sound and introduce new music breaking genres.

Brooklyn-based musician Maŕa is an experimental artist and the founder of Cultivated Sound, blending ambient, IDM, techno, and experimental music to create otherworldly soundscapes. Her unique sound evokes imagery of distant universes, merging deep atmospheric textures with punchy, mechanical rhythms.
Maŕa’s unassuming presence and tranquil demeanor draw listeners into her cinematic world. Her breakthrough came in 2019 with a highly regarded release on Nocturnal Frequencies, where she pushed the boundaries of experimental sound, using unconventional techniques that balance chaos and harmony. That same year, she co-released her first VA on Cultivated Sound alongside partner Chamberlain Zhang, featuring 29 artists across 27 tracks, including Ariel Zetina, Anna Wall, Phon.o, Maria Chávez, Hiroko Yamamura, Frankie Bones, and Phil Moffa.
In 2020, Maŕa’s single ‘Rebellion’ was featured on New York's Air Texture compilation curated by Silent Servant, Rrose along with pioneers like Laurel Halo, James Fei, Maggie Payne, Ron Morelli, Luke Slater, and Phase Fatale. She later revisited the track with a music video and a re-release EP in 2021, featuring remixes by LDY OSC and S. English, further cementing her evolving artistic voice.
In 2024, Maŕa will release her highly anticipated debut solo album, a genre-defying work that spans noise, experimental, ambient, electronic, trip-hop, and techno. The album offers an intimate journey through her psyche, blending spoken word and poetry to reveal her vulnerability. This project marks a significant evolution in her sound, promising listeners a deeper connection to her artistic vision.
Beyond Dawn, Maŕa continues to expand her artistic vision through collaborations. She will join forces with Italian producer Xalt Xcess on Oneiric Communications, an album that explores emotional decay, personal transmission, and impermanence through a serene blend of nuanced emotions and experimental sound. Additionally, Maŕa's collaboration with Sleeping Desirees, a darkwave band based in San Francisco, begins with their trip-hop track "Desperate Love." This marks the start of their project, with plans for an upcoming album that will explore darkwave, trip-hop, and darker emotional themes as they continue to evolve together creatively.
